■The Compliant Jizo

A long time ago in Suwataisha Akimiya, there stood Jinguji which had enshrined the principal image of the Thousand Armed Avalokiteshwara (Senju Kannon). On the orders of the Meiji Ishin (Meiji revolutionaries) Jinguji was demolished under the decree that female Bodhisattvas and Buddhas shall be separated. So the Compliant Jizo was moved and re-enshrined in the Yakushijido Temple in Hagikura. But every night the Jizo is said to have wanted to return home to Jinguji and would move to face the direction of its former home, leading it to be returned there. It will comply with any wish that is heard, therefore earning the name "Compliant Jizo", and being devoutly cared for and believed in throughout the passage of fine. It is a rare Jizo because it is respected universally nationwide as the "Compliant Jizo".
